Only reads movies? Jul 01, 2009
By Jason H. Harrell To everyone that's buying this and it only reads movies etc but does not play games. YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS. Either you can flash the firmware for the circuit board inside the new drive , OR you can do the easier task and just take the circuit board out of your old drive and swap it with the one in your new drive. Then there is no need to flash. Just make sure you keep your old drive and take it apart and get the board disconnected from it. Once you take off the four screws and remove the cover on the old CD ROM Drive , the green PC board is right there. There is like 4 ribbon cables to remove and then its a direct replacement and fit into your new drive. Remember you have to also take out the green board in your new drive and swap it with the one in your old drive so you will have one worthless pc board from this new drive that you can not use. If you choose to flash the new board with the same coding from your old drive then it will give you two usable green boards so you will have a spare from your old drive. The mechanical parts on these cd roms are whats failing , not the pc boards inside them. Its much easier to swap the green boards than it is to flash IMO. The reason you change the boards is because the green board from your old cd rom drive has a coded serial key thats unique to your xbox360. Thats why this cd rom without the green board changed only plays movies and not games until you do this.

Great dvd drive Jan 20, 2009
By Justin W. Richards For those of you who are wondering how to replace your 360 dvd drive its very easy. I had a samsung and I bought this and switched it out, and it works fine. You just have to make sure to switch out the the circuit boards inside the drives, from your old drive to your new drive. It has a 'key' on it that identifies with you xbox. Other than that your good to go. This is a great buy. Oh yeah, and you don't need to flash your drive to get it to work just switch the boards...doesn't matter if its a firmware version 25 or 28 it will work.

Great product May 03, 2009
By S. Segars Good drive! These drives have an average life expectancy of 1.5 years. Mine kicked the bucket at just over 2. i replaced it using a circut board swap. the model, serial number, or firmware are NOT important when doing a circut board swap. flashing is a little more difficult. I have refurbished 2 xboxs with this type of drive. quick tip: on some new drives the magnet on the dvd spindle is sometimes too strong so your new drive wont open especially if there is not a disk in the tray. the magnets power will eventually weaken due to heat. there are plenty of instructions on the net on how to fix this if it doesnt, or you could just use the old dvd drive lid.
