Good Item - buy with confidence Feb 10, 2008
By Vito_jr Purchased this roof rake at the end of December due to the heavy snow and ice in New England. Product arrived nicely packaged with all parts included. Assembly was easy. Particularly liked the design with 2 supporting brackets attached from the shovel to the handle. The rake worked as hoped, light-weight but sturdy and a good length. Also pliable enough to bend to the contour of my (addition) roof.
Have used it twice so far and it it very well made, I am confident of its quality. Buy with confidence.

Great snow rake for roof. Works great and light to hold Dec 20, 2008

I ordered this on Sunday because the weather report said we were going to get a lor of snow later in the week I had meant to get one earlier in the year but forgot about it so I had already checked reviews on several others which didn't have as long of reach (which I needed). We have Prime with Amazon so it arrived 2 days later with no shipping charge. It took about 10 minutes to put together. Well, on Thursday, it started snowing and by Friday we had over 29" of snow (deepest snow I have ever seen in 30 hours time). We have a 4 level house and it worked great for 3 of the levels. I was able to clear off over 65' of roof line on the front of the house in about 20 minutes to about 8-10 feet up the roof (the snow was very fluffy). The rods snap together and did bow quite a bit when they are all connected (21' reach). But that actually helped me reach some parts of the roof I couldn't have otherwise. I could not reach our upper roof but it is 22' directly above our deck (which is 8' above the ground. My neighbors watched me using it and are going to order their own.

Not perfect, but it works... Aug 26, 2006

This rake seems to have a nice design and is fairly light weight. If you just use 1 extension piece it's pretty sturdy and looks like the photo on the box - a straight pole. But we were very surprised to see how much bow there is to the pole when you've got more extensions attached to it. The longer it is, the more the rake "dips", and it becomes pretty awkward to position it where you want it. It felt something like trying to land a great big fish with one of those old fashioned long bamboo poles!
But at any rate, for us, it was still a good purchase because it allows us to reach every inch of our 1 story home's roof. (So we can drag down all the big cotton piles which accumulate from our neighbor's cottonwood tree and never seem to blow off.) I'm sure in winter it'll work great to scrape just a few feet of snow away from the edge of the roof/gutters - because we'll only need 1 extension to reach - but it's still August, we're not anxious to test that!

be careful to recheck wingnuts for tightness Dec 08, 2009
By Andrew J. Roazen It definitely does the job and is not difficult to assemble. However, I would have liked warning in the instructions to recheck all nuts for tightness before every use. This is critical because the instructions tell you not to overtighten those nuts.
I lent it to a neighbor, and when he was finished one of the braces (and the bolt and two wingnuts securing it) was missing, unlikely to be seen again before our snow melts. This is important because Suncast does NOT carry replacement parts for it -- and their customer service will tell you to contact local hardware stores. The retailer who sold it told me Suncast doesn't provide them with replacement parts and they don't carry custom machined braces.
Long story short: the product is good, but you're on your own if you need to replace a part.

prevent ice dams Mar 09, 2009
By D. Denney I had ice dams forming in my gutters and I had seen an article in the paper about roof brooms or rakes when used properly eliminating this problem. Your product was rated pretty high on the web so I sent for one to give it a try,I was very impressed with the ease of use of the product. Yes the pole when fully extended does tend to bend a little but it's really not a problem, I have a ranch house and was able to extend all the way up to the ridge vent and pull the snow down and off the roof. My ice dams were cleared up in just a few days,I'm ready for the next snow with my new whiz bang roof rake.No more ice dams for me:)
