Good Budget Meter Dec 05, 2008
By Radar Tech This is an acceptable multimeter and will service most peoples needs. Obviously you are not going to compare this to a Fluke multimeter, but for the price vs accuracy it is a decent multimeter. I have (2) of these and use them for general use where 100% accuracy is not critical. If you want better tolerances then you are going to have to spend a lot more than what the Mastech MS8268 is offering.
With that said, the unit is somewhat large which may be better for some people. It has a nice large LCD display that is backlit if needed. The plastic casing itself is pretty rugged and the selector dial feels solid when you rotate the dial. Autoranging is nice and I really like the LED blinking terminal feature that displays which correct terminals to use depending on what function you have selected. As one of the previous reviewers stated this unit does not come with (3) AAA batteries. I like this MS8268 unit and believe most people that need a decent affordable multimeter can't go wrong for the price on this one.

Check all ranges on your new meter Jul 06, 2011
By Robert W. Hall Sr. I failed to check all functions on my new meter when I got it. I had occasion to use the DC Voltage after about 6 months. It read 53 volts on a car battery. A AA battery reads over 8 volts, and a few millivolts with the leads reversed.
Amazon supplied me with the contact info for the manufacturer, and said that it was up to the mfgr to resolve the issue.
I have been waiting for a reply from them for over three weeks.
If you buy from Mastech, make sure you check all ranges immediately..

Insuperable Multimeter quality at this price range... Nov 07, 2007

Excellent multimeter, with nice accuracy for this price... Need more accuracy?? go for a fluke at several hundreds $$$ more... Autoranging it's a very nice option for fast readings between several ranges... It doesn't feel cheap at all, and i liked the green color... Large and clear readout, with a nice backlight option... In opposite with another reviewer, i got the "multi-function socket" for hFE measurement... Very happy with the device... Works with 3 AAA batteries (not supplied)...

Very good multimeter for it's price Mar 04, 2007

In general, this is a great device for this cost range. It has all features required for daily usage. Description of multimeter can be found in internet. Here are some specific features:
- In any range two terminals to be used are illuminated with red LEDs (see foto). LED is swithed off when lead is pushed into terminal. If lead is pushed into wrong terminal for this range then correct terminal blinks and beeps.
- Automatic range; manual range selection with button.
- Wide set of ranges, including 400.0 mV and 400.0 uA
- Relative measurements and display hold. White backlight (5 seconds)
- Resettable fuse for current ranges (non-resettable for 10A range)
- Display data refresh: 3 per second.
Imperfection:
- Frequency measurement accuracy is low: 2%
- In accordance with manual, package must contain "Special Multi-Function socket" (required for hFE measurement). There was no such device in my package.

Nice Inexpensive Digital Multimeter, but It's No Fluke! Jan 21, 2012
By Donald Allen I bought the MASTECH MS8268 (Serial Number 1110 0098741) from Amazon & SainStore this week. As usual, Amazon delivered very quickly, even with the Free Delivery option. First of all to give everyone some of my personal background for credibility purposes, I've worked in electronics since 1965, and have used all types of VOMs, VTVMs, DVMs, and well as other much more sophisticated forms of professional test equipment. First as an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy, and later in the electronics industry, primarily in Research and Development for products for the Pentagon. I've held a FCC Commercial License with Shipboard Radar Endorsement since 1966. Plus, I've been a ham radio operator since 1961, and have built quite a few transmitters and receivers over the past 50 years! Yes, I'm a senior citizen now (LOL) and retired, but am still technically competent with all analog, digital, and computer technology. My primary digital multimeter is a Fluke 77, and was calibrated and referenced against a lab standard at the Fluke factory. Here are my observations of the MASTECH MS8268:
- Build quality is good, but not up to the standards of the Fluke. But, then again, the Fluke cost $279.99. The only caveat to the "good build quality" is there is something floating loose within the case of the MASTECH. Whether it's a piece of solder, plastic, or ??, I have no idea, but it has no effect (so far!) on the operation of the meter. - The appearance is somewhat deceiving. From the photos, and for those who are familiar with the Fluke 77, it appears the MASTECH has a soft-rubber surround (the green outer portion of the meter) similar to the Fluke's. Rather, this apparent "surround" is actually part of the integral case and is of hard plastic, not a soft impact-absorbing rubber as on the Fluke. Drop the Fluke, and it will survive... Drop the MASTECH, and it may be toast! - It's a bit larger than the Fluke, as is the LCD display. The larger display is an improvement over the Fluke's smaller LCD display. - The rotary switch on the MASTECH has a bit of a cheap feel, as compared to the Fluke. - The test leads supplied are very nice, perhaps not as flexible as those on the Fluke, but still very acceptable. - Now to the nitty gritty of what a digital multimeter is supposed to do... accurately measure current, resistance, voltage, etc.
Measurement of AC Voltage from AC Mains at my home: Fluke: 123.9VAC MASTECH: 125.5VAC Measurement of an exact 13.8VDC regulated source: Fluke: 13.81VDC MASTECH: 13.91VDC Measurement of a 200 Ohm 1% Resistor: Fluke: 199.9 Ohms MASTECH: 199.2 Ohms
CAVEAT: I didn't measure AC or DC current, or any of the other available features offered on the MASTECH.
In conclusion, I give the MASTECH MS8268 4 stars for its performance. For its almost give-away price, it probably deserves 5 stars! If you're a general user, hobbyist, or homeowner in need of a "reasonably" accurate digital multimeter, the MASTECH is a valid choice. However, if you need truly accurate measurements, especially of AC voltages, I would strongly suggest that you save your money and buy a more professional digital multimeter, such as a Fluke 77 or others. Nevertheless, the MASTECH MS8268 is a very nice meter for its unbelievably low price. I wouldn't call this a good "cheap digital multimeter, rather an good "inexpensive digital multimeter," as there is really nothing cheap per se about the MASTECH MS8268.
