One Of the Best Magnifiers I've Ever Purchased! Jun 16, 2010
By Paul Wilmoth
""Beach Bum""
Not only, is the price for this particular magnifier VERY reasonable, the magnifier itself is well made for an item in this price range. I've used mine for everything from viewing very hard to read and make out, dates and markings on coins, to working on very intricate pieces such as watch movements to even removing the occasional splinter from a finger! The lens is very clear and sharp and I also like the fact that it's a strictly a "set it down on any object and get a clear, magnified, view of whatever it is you're wishing to see more clearly and "magnified", without having to barely,(if at all, really),adjust the focus. The built in "light source" I found to be very, very, bright and a great added bonus to this tool, as it provides more than enough light to brightly light up whatever it is you're trying to see. (see "the occasional splinter from a finger", comment above! ha!). When using it to see the finest of details, (i.e.when working on something as small and intricate as a wristwatch movement, which I do quite often), the "no need to really focus and bright light features" are huge pluses for me and why I like using this tool as often as I do. The magnification is only 8X, but for 95% of what I use this magnifier for, that's more than enough usually. The "adjustable feature", (for focusing), really needn't even be listed as a "feature" on this tool, as the range of adjustment in very, very, minimal and I find it sort of "unnecessary to mention". Overall, if you're looking for a great little magnifier, for a very reasonable price, I don't think you can go wrong with this one!

Very useful Oct 12, 2010
By wei This is a surprisingly useful magnifier. Even without the light, the clear base allows ambient light onto the object you are examining. The base also immediately sets the object at the proper focal length. The scale is helpful if you need to measure something, but it closes off half of the field otherwise. Amazing what an 8 power lens reveals.

ideal for philately Apr 28, 2010
By oldken I use this for looking at stamps. Ideal. Hands free. Plenty of illumination.

Great little magnifier, with one potentially significant problem... Feb 09, 2011
By iceblink As mentioned by other reviewers, this magnifier gets the job done. Besides the fact that it's Made in China, the most significant problem we've encountered after just 45 days of use, is related to the mechanics of the light switch.
It's a simple plastic switch, that when moved, forces a metal plate downward ever so slightly, to make contact with another plate connected to the battery compartment (3 x LR1130 watch batteries). After some use, admittedly by 8-year-olds, the plate tends NOT to make a solid connection (light flickers or fails to turn on). And, it seems tough to fix this little problem.
Bottom line: if you're careful, or perhaps older than eight , this item may work perfectly for you.

I purchased these once for some engineers and they liked them so well they had me purchase more. Highly recommend them.
