5Superb product  Jun 25, 2008 By Slim "Gary"
PIVOTRIM Trimmer Head - (Better Heads LLC - 1101PTC)
Superb product. I have an Echo trimmer. My original head was throwing line out, especially after hitting an object. Went to a local homeshow and saw a booth advertising the Pivotrim. Although skeptical about booths at such shows, I thought I'd give it a try. Installation was not hard AFTER I figured out that the threads on the shaft were reverse threads (turn CCW). Performance is absolutely superb. When it hits objects, it bounces back, so the line lasts much longer. It uses line that is .095 inches in diameter. Buy from Pivotrim outlet or just go to your local hardware store for any standard line of that thickness. Cut length according to your trimmer. It's as good as the advertisement says!

3Not quite up to the commercial, but it works.  Jun 18, 2011 By mjaytee
For my Craftsman convertible trimmer the installation was easy. However, be aware that the line is not as indestructible as the commercial depicts. The commercial shows six inches of line along a brick wall and coming out with the same six inches. Not happening. True the line does not break but it does wear down quickly.

Although, I never had a problem with line breakage, bump issues and refilling were a pain. So this product adequately solves those issues. Not quite trimming heaven but I'm satisfied with PivoTrim until I find something better. Overall, I would say it is a worthwhile purchase.

Edit July 15, 2011

Now having used it a few more times, I have had a couple of lines break. I won't downgrade my rating, just letting it known that broken lines happen.

5Awesome Product.  May 24, 2010 By CarazyEyes
I was somewhat skeptical of this product, for it sounded too good to be true. Plus its commercial made it out to be some type of ginsu trimmer head, cutting through metal and such. I was desperate though, I bought a new Echo trimmer several months back with a speed change head. When trimming my chain link fence, I literally had to change the line every 5-7 feet. It almost rendered the trimmer useless.

So I purchased this Pivot Head. Looking at the instructions, which were somewhat useless, I actually had to pull out my trimmer owner's manual to figure out how to pull off the original head. The Pivot Head actually seemed in many ways inferior to the original head I just removed; it was much lighter and made of less quality material. I almost didn't even install it. Glad I did though the whole install only took about 15 minutes.

Upon first using it, it took a little getting used to, in some ways it has a little more give to it than traditional heads. It worked great, I was able to trim, and edge my whole yard without changing lines. It worked better than anything I've ever used along the chain-link fence; it even got between the links. Great product, I would recommend to everyone.

4Glad to say this worked well on my Ryobi 725r curved shaft  Aug 29, 2009 By Careful shopper
Used to see so many of these type replacement trimmer units sold on TV and always figured they were junk.
Now they all seem to be gone from the marketplace except for two types that I found, I bought this one because it uses plain heavy duty .095 trimmer line and not special made blades that might be hard to find at some point.

This can be set up to use 2 or 4 sections of line (bent double to be 4 or 8) I've been using it with only 2(4) so far and it works at least as well as my old stock unit that kept needing repairs and wasting line.
Cutting pretty well, but makes the engine seem to run a bit slower and I feel the need to give it more throttle.

I might try it with all 4 lines at some point to see if there is an improvement in cut, but happy as is and saves line too. (8 lines in use after you fold them over and insert) not sure what all 4(8) lines will do to the RPM range however, might not let my engine come up to full speed.

This same item is also sold under the "Rino-Tuff" brand, but made by the same company.

Check the pre cut replacement string package, for just a dollar or so more you can get 100ft of .095 line and cut 100 pcs pretty quick.

Was quick and easy to install and has given no trouble so far with a few hours of cutting with it. (still the same line that came with the unit)

They claim 20x the life for the line, but who knows.. even if it gets the same life per foot as the old coil loaded in, it's still easier to deal with no mechanical parts and uses low cost rolls of line.

On the subject of line life, one thing to keep in mind is that when you do wear line it is not replaced by more from a spool so just gets shorter and shorter.. how long will you keep using it at it's shortest length before you put in new line? A variable that will cause owners to report different findings on line wear times I'm sure.

Claims to fit 99% of the gas trimmers out there, but no way one person can know if this is true. Does come with a good assorment of sizes for nuts and bolts to fit what you have though.

No way to know how this will hold up, but time will tell and I'll be back to say if it didn't do well 8-)

1confused by the good reviews?  Jun 20, 2011 By L Sharp
I purchased this head after reading the glowing reviews, and tired of messing with the bump-type head that I was sick of taking apart several times each use. I tried this pivotrim with 2 opposing lines (just like my bump head) and it worked pretty good for 10 feet or so when the lines broke off at the point where they attach to the head. I tried several others that came with the head and regardless of how I use this, they quickly broke. I thought maybe this was old stock, so I switched to some line that I was using for my other head, a splined line that works pretty well for me. Well, to make a long story short, regardless of what I put in this thing, it eats line quickly and is a real pain to get the old line out - you have to poke it out with a tool. In other words, it's as much of a hassle or more than the bad bump head I replaced. It also has a vibration that I didn't have with the other head. It did fit my trimmer just fine (a gas John Deere/Homelight) and came with a great set of hardware, but this head was a waste of money for me. By the way, I'm trimming a typical suburban yard - next to brick footings, trees, landscape timbers, and a spaced wood picket fence. After getting frustrated with this thing, I've been using a small battery type toro trimmer that came free with my mower and it uses far less line and does a pretty decent job. I'm still tempted just to send the pivotrim back, but it's not Amazon's fault that it's a bad product.
