5Great Tripod / Very Well Made  Feb 26, 2009 By M. McDonald
I got this tripod and was so impressed with it I bought another one a
week later.

I have two Canon Xl2s I use with these tripods and they work
great...Even better than I expected them to for the price but,
sometimes you do get a great deal and this is one of them.

The 75mm Ball Claw set up makes it so easy to level because you don't have to fool around re-adjusting the legs...(Nice)

I am going to get a couple of Canon XLH1s soon and I will use these
tripods for them with confidence because the tripods are sturdy with
very smooth action heads and weigh just enough to be stable.

They look professional also and that is always a plus.

I suggest you get the 3 wheel dolly for this also because it makes it so nice to be able move the whole thing around with out having to pick it up and carry it.

The dolly works smooth also and the wheels easily lock in place so the whole set up is firmly grounded.

5Very good, but...  Jun 23, 2009 By Mr & Mrs. Marshall "Marshall Family"
I bought my first 7518 about two years ago and have had zero problems. It is a very high quality piece. I bought my second 7518 a couple months ago, it suffered from the "brittle clamps" after the first shoot.
The parent company, Tiffen, was not easy to find. Well, okay, it took me six minutes, but with the internet, you'd think you could just look up "Davis & Sanford". (Are we consumers spoiled or what?)
Anyhow, the guy at Tiffen seemed to be in charge, concerned with my problem, and after I emailed him pics of my nuked clamps he overnighted three new clamps to me. Very impressive service in this day and age.
Especially since I only lost two clamps, but I told him I wanted a third clamp "just in case". The guy was "on my side" and sent three clamps without hesitation.
A good product with great service becomes a great product.

The lesson learned is that this is a very good tripod, but if the clamps are tight when you first receive it, use the included Allen Wrench to loosen them so they don't fracture the plastic.

I can recommend this tripod to anyone. My buddy is a very good pro photographer who uses high end tripods. He was impressed by these "sticks".

3Good pan head but weight capacity is overstated  Feb 17, 2010 By Neal Hallford "Nealiios"
This is overall not a bad tripod if you intend to use it purely for a DSLR, consumer camcorder, or a lightweight professional video camera. When I attempted to use it with my Panasonic HVX205A and a Redrock M2, the approximate 15 pounds of weight was too much for the tripod and the legs all started slipping, despite the leg locks. I tried re-tightening the leg lock bolts, but 10 pounds is really about all this baby will reliably hold (as opposed to the 18 pounds that the specs suggest). Otherwise the pan head was very good, and had very nice pan and tilt with no wiggle. You'll appreciate the weight of the construction of the 7518XB, especially if you've owned older, aluminum models which can be a chore to lug around. Bottom line, if you want to shoot a home movie, you should have no problems with this tripod, but if you're looking to go semi-pro or pro, you should shoot for another, stronger set of legs.

5Excellent, well made tripod  Feb 03, 2011 By James Gallagher
I waited 2 years before posting a review so I could use this tripod extensively. As a low/no budget filmmaker, I really enjoy working with it. The fluid head makes for some extremely smooth pans/camera movements. Plus it is wicked sturdy and easy to adjust. Definitely recommend.

43 years but a bit worse for the wear  Oct 25, 2010 By DG
I bought this tripod about 3 years ago for our school. Within 6 months, the head was loose, it wiggled, and the smooth was gone. I took the head apart and found several loose screws and a complex mech that took some thinking to figure out. I reassembled with some white lithium grease and red locktight on the screws. It was better than new. It served us well until a year ago when the aluminum struts began to pull free (the center pieces that keep the legs from splaying out). I fixed these. It is long when folded down. All in all, we've gotten some great smooth pans with Panasonic 100B's.

I will buy another one, if for no other reason than I know it's a good tripod if I do the quality control. If you don't want to be a mechanic, maybe select another tri-pod. We have a half dozen others (two of which are Manfredos (sp?), and this is the one that gets used.
