Great gift Aug 31, 2005
By Frank Hargrave Great gift and conversation piece.
Pros: Small desktop device that catches the attention of everyone passing by. A fun challenge for the non-computer/math person.
Cons: It is sometimes difficult to read the time in low light as the positions of the LEDS are hard to identify (the illuminated LEDs are easily seen.) It could use a backup battery (although setting the time is easy)

Nice Gift Dec 25, 2004

I've seen this clock on display at the Discovery Channel Store and at first it looks like a little box with flashing lights. A sales associate explained to me how to read the clock and it actually makes sense. It's a perfect gift for someone who likes unusual things or for a computer geek. The Discovery Store use to sell this same model, but it doesn't sell it anymore so Amazon is the only place to get this model.

True binary mode Mar 10, 2008
By A. Pico This is a great product for computer science students or CS geeks in general. Note that it has a "true" binary mode where each row is used to represent hours, minutes and seconds (top row is ignored). The alternative mode uses vertical binary read-outs to represent individual digits of a traditional digital clock = lame. Other clocks only have this lame mode, so beware!
My girlfriend immediately (well, pretty quickly) picked up the binary system with this clock and now is eager to tell me the time, saying aloud "1, 2, 4, 8, 16... 16 + 2 + 1... it's 19 after the hour!" Very cute :)

It works in 12 hour and 24 hour mode. It can also work in sideways arrangement. The lights are really bright and they look cool.
